Mariah Album Sales

Mariah Carey’s album Glitter and it’s failure?

I was reading at wikipedia, and it sounds like Mariah Carey’s album “Glitter” bombed partially because of no tour. Her most prior albums of it, though, were really hot (Daydream, Butterfly, and I think Rainbow was pretty big), and she also had the movie. Did it fail because of no/little touring, because the audience didn’t like the music on the new album, or a mix of both? Just to me, she seemed too popular and it was too promoted in 2001 to have failed just because of no touring. If anyone knows any information on the affect of Charmbracelet’s sales, as well, please let me know. I’m just curious. Thanks.
Anyone who’s confused I mean the album not movie.

I had never seen “Glitter,” nor am I inclined to see it at all. I know a couple of people who have seen it and have said it was horrible and Mariah Carey was such a horrible actress in it. From what I’ve heard, it’s her version of “8 Mile” (even though that movie came out later). I am putting the two movies in the same category because they were supposedly “fictional” stories that somehow still reflected each respective actor’s lives.

Now, Eminem’s flick did have MAJOR media attention, was advertised left and right, and even won an Acedemy Award for best song. Is Eminem a better actor? Probably not. Is he a better artist? Debateable. His movie was just really publicized.

Now, take into consideration, both movies had equal publicity when they first opened. When a movie’s sales slump or bomb (in Mariah’s case), the publicity of the movie slumps and/or bombs along with it. So, there had to have been people who went and saw the movie, thought it sucked, told their friends about it, and caused it to bomb. Eminem, on the other hand, skyrocketed. I thought that “8 Mile” was a good movie. I think the music and his little suaree with Brittany Murphy in the factory had something to do with it, too. But, I personally heard good reviews of the movie. So I went and saw it. “Glitter,” on the other hand, heard no good. And plus, I’m not twelve and don’t want to see a little “rags to riches” story about a girl that I really don’t think is all that talented.

Oh, and why would you tour to promote a movie? It wasn’t a tours-worth, nor a movie’s-worth of music in her film.

Hope this adds some insight.

Winner of Britain’s “The X-Factor,” Leona Lewis debuts with a mix of pop and R&B. She is blessed with a vocal range that’s so versatile, in songs like “Better In Time,” that one may immediately compare her to Mariah Carey or BeyoncĂ© Knowles, especially in “The First Time I Ever Saw You.” It’s not Lewis’s fault that her voice doesn’t distinguish her from these stars, but her producer, Simon Cowell…
