She was the first singer to have five singles hit the top US Billboard Hot 100 chart and was cited as the most successful artist in the United States during the 1990′s by Billboard Magazine.
Mariah Carey won best selling female pop artist in 2000 at the World Music Awards and has the most singles to hit number one for a solo artist in the United States. The only other artist to beat her record was for most singles to hit number one in the world and that was no other than the Beatles. She is the third best selling artist in the female category and has won five Grammy Awards. The singer is best known for her high octave and vocal range. She has sold over 175 million albums, singles and videos throughout the world.
The first single, Obsessed, from her 12th album titled Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song made it to number 7 on the charts making it her 40th single to make the charts. Her second single from the same album is a cover of Foreigner’s, I Want To Know What Love Is. Her most recent performance was at the Michael Jackson Memorial at the Los Angeles Staples Center on July 7, 2009, singing a duet with Trey Lorenz of the popular Jackson 5 song, I’ll Be There, which she covered in 1992.
