translating in general?
how come most times when you translate something into another language it’s totally different? like it doesn’t mean the same thing at all. i was just on youtube and i was listening to the spanish version on mariah carey’s hero and the lyrics are totally different from the english version. why can’t they just translate most of it word for word?
You have to translate sentences into the word structure of the second language. With a song, it is even more difficult because you have to match the rhythm. Sometimes the only way to do this is to change the wording and try to stay as close to the original idea as possible. Some translators take more liberties than others in this area and essentially create new lyrics.
