Top 3 Songs on The-Dream’s Love Vs. Money
The-Dreams successful follow-up to his hit record “Love/Hate”, and the second in a proposed trilogy, with “Love King” coming in 2010, “Love Vs. Money” is an epic, futuristic R&B album for the new millennium, and maybe one of the best records of the decade. The-Dream has written songs for Beyonce, Rihanna and Mariah Carey, so you know he’s got the talent to bring it on his own solo records. He doesn’t often use samples like many other producers, and strays from the annoying train horn sound club sample that so many artists use to try to give their track a big sound. Here is a list of the top three songs on “Love Vs. Money.”
“Fancy”
This nearly seven minute slow burning track fits perfectly near the end of “Love Vs. Money” and sounds almost like an R&B version of a Radiohead song. The-Dream details how all the money and fame couldn’t save a past relationship from falling apart. It is a slow build with a massive coda that will have you longing for more.
“Kelly’s 12 Play”
This homage to The-Dream’s idol R. Kelly is a slinky, slow-jam number about using R. Kelly’s classic “12 Play” album as babymaking music. Kelly was so impressed by the song that he recorded his own version for his mixtape, mixing in The-Dream’s chorus with his verses.
“Put It Down”
A candidate for the best song of the year, this monster jam mixes all the best things about The-Dream and his production team, with their staccato drums, huge waves of synths and Dream’s penchant for repetitive choruses that get stuck in your head for weeks.
